Living Butterflies

This landmark series is a new approach to the study of the butterflies. Previous books on the subject dealt mainly with descriptive natural history, the taxomanic approach. Insect play a vital, if often unappreciated, role in the ecology of our planet, and the lepidoptera are considered to be the flagship. Today people recognise the great importance, as well as interest, of studying the living butterfly in the field. The authors have treated each of the more than 880 species from southern Africa as comprehensively as possible, with more than 2500 color photgraphs and distribution maps for each species.
