RARE AND ENDANGERED SUCCULENTS WORKSHOP
This workshop will interest anyone who has knowledge of the distribution of rare or endangered succulent species, especially if this information can contribute to the conservation of these species. Progress with Red Data List succulents will be outlined, and participants will be encouraged to present views on the assessments which have been made to date, based on information currently available. We would like to gather information on the controversial and data deficient (DD) species. In particular, input by participants who are interested or know anything about Aloe pillansii, Euphorbia reynoldsii or Orbea irrorata will be extremely valuable. We would also like to cover some of the species of the following genera: Adenium, Adromischus, Brachystelma, Ceropegia, Crassula, Gasteria and others. Janine Victor, NBI and SABONET
WEDNESDAY DAY TRIPS
One day excursions will take place on Wednesday 23 August. A charge to cover transport, entrance fees and permits will be payable by delegates.
    The following will be offered:

  • Visit to Worcester Desert Garden. The outing to this exciting succulent garden is a must for those who have not previously been there
  • Visits to Haworthia collections
  • Trips to plants in habitat Aloe haemanthifolia in Bainskloof (only for those who are fairly fit), other succulent sites
  • Walk around Lion's Head and visit to the top of Table Mountain by cable car (again, for the fairly fit)
  • Visit to research laboratory, Kirstenbosch
TOURS

Click on the tour, you are interested in, for an itinery. The route for each day is given in broad terms. A list of the most prominent succulent genera occurring in the areas to be visited is given for each trip. In most cases more than one species of each genus will be encountered, in some cases many species of the genus are to be seen. The plant lists are of course not comprehensive, it is impossible to list all genera, it will, however, give an indication of the succulent flora to be expected on the trips.
Tour costs include all transport, accommodation and meals, as well as soft drinks en route.
